St Andre MLA Vishnu Surya Wagh and Mayem MLA Anant Shet on Wednesday demanded that the government should pursue projects like theme parks to boost tourism in the state. Participating in the general discussion on the budget, Wagh said that Goa should have theme parks like Veegland in Kerala and Bangalore. This kind of a facility is needed for tourists visiting the state, he added.
The BJP legislator said the focus of tourism in Goa should be on health tourism, religious tourism and Eco-tourism and other innovative types of sustainable tourism.
Backwater tourism should also be encouraged, he suggested. He also urged the government to set up a state tourism development board as soon as possible.
On beach shacks, Wagh said that the government should review the shack allotment policy and that the allotment should be for five years and not annual.
In his speech which was interspersed with a lot of sarcasm, Wagh said that the government should allot a sum of around 1 crore for each MLA for development in their respective constituencies. He also called upon the government to inquire into NGOs, saying some of them think that they are ‘super governments’.Wagh also urged the government to resolve the issue of computer teachers as they have not received their salaries for the last few months.
Shet, who is also the deputy speaker of the House, said that the government should do everything to protect the interests of mining-affected people.
