Mapusa City, Goa
Mapusa is a small town in extreme North of Goa and one of the main commercial centre in North Goa. It is basically a town for locals, who throng to it for their shopping and commercial requirements. Mapusa however has a very colourful weekly Friday Market, that goes on from early morning to late evening, and which increasingly attracts a number of tourists. It also has scenic churches and temples.
Mapusa is known for its educational institutions. Mapusa houses several prominent Goan educational institutions, including Saraswat Vidyalaya, St. Mary’s Convent High School, St. Brittos, New Goa High School, St. Xavier’s College, and St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School.

Mapusa is also spelt at Mapuca, Mhapsa or Mapsa is a town located in North Goa, and 13 Kms from Panaji. The town is the headquarters of Bardez Taluka. It is located on the main highway NH-17, linking Mumbai to Trivandrum.
Mapusa Climate
Mapusa has a tropical climate with temperatures ranging from a high of 37 °C in summer with high levels of humidity to a low of 21 °C in winters.
Summers – Typical of most the regions of Goa, the summer weather in Mapusa does not witness any extremities in temperatures. The heat is very much bearable and the occasional breeze from the seas provides succour to the residents. The south-west monsoon arrives in June and the monsoon weather lasts till September.
Winters – The winter months bring in a pleasant climate and this is the peak tourist season. Temperatures hover in the range of 21C to 32C during this period.

- Weekly Friday Market – Mapusa’ s main attraction is its famous Friday Market where people from all over Goa come to buy and sell their commodities. Everything from incense sticks, spices, fruits and vegetables, fresh as well as dried fish, to souvenirs of other states of India are available here. This market also attracts a large number of foreign tourists who come here to add new things to their existing collection of souvenirs and other stuff.

How to reach Mapusa
Mapusa is easily reachable by bus from Panjim and the north Goa beach belt. The Goa bus is inexpensive but crowded, for convenience you can book tickets in advance from KTC Bus service in Goa.
By Air: The Dabolim airport in Panjim is the nearest airport from Mapusa town.
By Rail: The Tivim (Thivim Railway station), 12 km away, is the nearest Railway station from Mapusa. There are rickshaws and tourist taxis available here to take you to the nearest beach hotel or resort.
