The South Goa district is divided into three subdivisions – Margao, Mormugao (Vasco), and Quepem;
There are six taluks: Mormugao Taluka, Salcete Taluka (Margao), Quepem Taluka, Canacona Taluka (Chaudi), Sanguem Taluka, and Dharbandora Taluka.

The administrative headquarters of the district is Margao.
